Spatial Environmental Elements, Ltd., more popularly know as SEE Ltd. or just SEE, began in 1984 when the owners of Spatial Design, a NYC design firm, made their first trip to the Salone del Mobile furniture fair in Milan. There, they fell in love with European furniture and lighting design. After purchasing more furniture than the could fit in their two homes, the first SEE furniture store was opened in SoHo, NYC.
New York City embraced SEE‘s philosophy of presenting high end designer furniture and lighting at a reasonable mark-up, and the business flourished. In 1990 SEE moved to a much larger space on Broadway in NY City’s Flatiron District, and in 1997 they opened another location in Beverly Hills, CA.
By 2001, the upward pressure on rents made retail business difficult. The events of September 11th, which stunned NYC and the world, put an end to the retail business.
With a year, owner Carolyn Walton reinvented SEE as an agent and importer. Today, SEE is still dedicated to world of design by representing Catellani & Smith as it’s USA agent and distributor.
